Marble is a natural material. When you think of ancient luxury, marble often comes to mind.

Marble starts as limestone. It is composed of materials like calcite, shells, coral, fossils, and more. After many years, a large amount of limestone accumulates and as it develops over time and under certain conditions, the limestone can evolve to become marble.

For marble to form, it needs both heat and movement. When limestone is heated, either where the earth converges between two plates, or due to magma in the earth, the calcite crystals grow and recrystallize causing the limestone to turn into marble. The change of limestone to marble can happen on a large scale, meaning large amounts of marble can be harvested at a time, via quarry.

Marble slabs are most prevalently found in Italy, Spain, India, and China. The most famous white marble hails from Carrara Italy. Michelangelo, Canova, and Donatello famously used Carrara marble for their sculptures.

As we mentioned before, marble slabs are harvested from quarries. After it is extracted, it can either be crushed or maintained in large slabs. After a slab of marble is selected for use, a template selects the best place to cut, that reflects the most character in the material. That is where Arista comes in!

After we receive the slabs, you and your clients are welcome to walk in and view them in person. Our greater Phoenix location hosts thousands of materials and marble slabs in our inventory. Bring your paint samples and a general idea of what you’re looking for and our expert sales reps will do the rest. Stop in and view them today at 695 West Elliot Road in Tempe, Arizona.

After you determine which material you would like, if you don’t already have a fabricator, we will connect you with our list of trusted fabricators. We will also hold your marble slabs for some time before we deliver them for free if you so choose.

Marble is soft and porous, making it susceptible to staining and etching. Although it is higher maintenance than some of our other stones, it also has many benefits and is incredibly durable if cared for properly. Avoid staining your marble countertop with foods or harsh chemicals and ensure that you are cleaning your marble countertops regularly with warm water and a non-acidic cleanser. With proper care and regular sealing, there is no reason why your marble countertop won’t last for a very long time.

Marble comes in a variety of colors and patterns. Our sales associates will always work with you to find the correct stone for your lifestyle. If you determine that marble is that stone, that is wonderful and we have a beautiful selection for you to choose from. If Marble does not work for your lifestyle, there are alternatives such as some quartz slabs that our associates will be happy to show you.
